Formerly a top fashion model who was 5'10'' tall, Carey was popular with the top American designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. In 1979 in 1979, the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists elected her dad Scientist of the Year. Her father was a scientist who travelled around the world as part of his career. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to do modeling as a side. The idea caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. She briefly spent time and studied in Paris before returning to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on Vogue's, Glamour's, and a variety of other magazines' covers. While she was modeling, she was a full time student obtaining a major in literature at New York University. In New York she began to learn about acting. Her part was a minor one on Club Paradise with Robin Williams in 1986. Her hobbies include skiing, white-water rafting, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
